From 1969-1971 I lived in Omaha, Nebraska, next door to H. Chandler Elliot, a neuroanatomy professor at Creighton Medical School, and science fiction author. He was paralyzed from the waist and worked the gardens around his antique trailer home by scooting around on the ground. He entertained my wife and I frequently and we became fast friends. He asked me to do him a favor. He had a book from his childhood that he wanted to pass on to his descendants. It had been read many, many times and the binding was worn through. He asked me to have copies made so he could give them to his family. The book was "The Water Babies." I've cherished the memory of the illustrations in that book all these years. Today I saw an article in the online BBC about W. Heath Robinson and found the illustrations to be very nostalgic. Further research revealed the connection.Dr. Elliot was so pleased with the copies I made, he gave me a signed copy of one of his books, "Reprieve from Paradise," that I still have. Thanks for these memories.
